April 15, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians:
As I’m sure you are all aware by now the Commissioner of Education has recommended that all schools remain closed for the rest of the school year that ends in June. As a result of this recommendation, and that of the CDC, I am directing that all our schools remain closed for the remainder of this school year. If things change for the good and we find ourselves in a position that we could safely re-open schools before the end of the year, I will rescind that order to remain closed and re-open our schools. It doesn’t look likely, considering every public school in the country is closed due to Coronavirus. Our distance-learning will continue through the end of the year.
Third quarter report cards will be coming out May 1. Students should continue to work with their teachers to make sure that they are meeting their educational goals.
We will be observing our regular April vacation (April 20-24). Students will not have work that needs to be completed during this break. We will continue to deliver meals during this time on our regular Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule.
Our end-of-year schedule has the last day of school as June 12.
This Pandemic has stolen many things from us: Days of schooling, sports seasons, awards ceremonies, time spent with friends, and much more. Stay strong and stay safe; given time we will be back enjoying all these things again. We remain committed to making sure we observe as many of our traditions as possible, when possible. We will hold a High School graduation for the class of 2020 as soon as it can safely happen. This graduation ceremony may be held in June (if possible), July, August, or even next fall, if necessary, but it will be held.
This has been, and continues to be, a major change for all of us and none of us have all the answers. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work together to solve problems, find answers and work through this difficult situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Ronald C. Ramsay, Superintendent of Schools
